Questions or complaints about a film or programme

All companies and organisations affiliated to NICAM are obliged to classify their audiovisual productions in accordance with the Kijkwijzer regulations. The Kijkwijzer classifications must also be displayed on the product in a clearly visible place. If you believe that these regulations have not been complied with, you can submit a complaint about this to NICAM within two weeks.
N.B.! NICAM and its Complaints Committee cannot consider any complaints about the themes, good taste and/or decency of films or television programmes. Such complaints should be addressed directly to the supplier.

Examples of failure to comply:
• A television programme or film has a classification that does not correspond to what you would expect.
• A broadcaster broadcasts a television programme or film at a time other than that permitted by the classification (12 years after 20.00 hours, 16 years after 22.00 hours).
• The programme preceding the screening of a film with the classification All Ages in the cinema shows a promotional trailer not intended for children of All Ages.
• An incorrect classification is displayed on the cover of a video or DVD.

Questions or complaints about a game

All companies and organisations affiliated to PEGI are obliged to classify their games in accordance with the PEGI regulations. The PEGI classifications must also be displayed in a clearly visible place on the packaging and advertising materials. If you believe that these regulations have not been complied with, you can submit a complaint to PEGI.
N.B.! NICAM and its Complaints Committee cannot consider any complaints about the themes, level of difficulty, good taste and/or decency of games. Such complaints should be addressed directly to the supplier.

Examples of failure to comply:
• A game has a classification that deviates from what you would expect. For example, if a game contains coarse language, but this is not stated on the packaging, you can report this to us.

• The cover of a game shows a classification different from that shown for this game on the website www.pegi.info.

• The PEGI classification on the advertising materials for a game is missing or incorrect.

Do you have a question or a comment about the implementation of Kijkwijzer or PEGI?

There is also a legal side to Kijkwijzer and PEGI. This is laid down in Article 240a of the Criminal Code. For further information on this, see Legislation.
This article stipulates that cinemas, video rental shops, shops and libraries may not admit people under the age of 16 years to a film with the age classification 16 years, or sell or rent a DVD or game with this classification to anyone under the age of 16 years.

Examples of failure to comply:
• Your 11-year-old daughter has been let into the cinema with a girlfriend to see a film with a 16 years classification.
• Your 14-year-old child has bought a DVD with a 16 years classification in a shop.
• Your 15-year-old son was able to borrow the game Grand Theft Auto from a library.
