Discrimination is any expression that suggests (a group of) people are 'inferior' in some way, for example on the basis of race, religion, sexual preference, sex or nationality. If a production contains discrimination and the discriminatory action is not immediately condemned, the icon for discrimination is depicted.
It becomes normal
If discrimination is portrayed in media as something cool, there’s a chance that children start to normalize or even copy discriminatory behaviour.
Sexism or anti-female behaviour is also a type of discrimination, and seeing sexism in media can have harmful effects. Research has shown this. Think, for example, of music videos that depict women as sex objects: this can lead to negative views of women.
