De legendarische Billie Holiday, één van de grootste jazzmuzikanten aller tijden, werd (en wordt nog steeds) aanbeden over heel de wereld. Door haar nummer Strange Fruit, waarin ze een aanklacht doet tegen rassenongelijkheid en racistisch geweld, werd ze jarenlang het doelwit van de Federal Department of Narcotics. De zwarte undercover-agent Jimmy Fletcher, met wie ze een tumultueuze relatie kreeg, werd op haar afgestuurd om haar te betrappen op het bezit van drugs.

Ook zit er grof taalgebruik in de productie. Dit kunnen grove woorden zijn, schuttingtaal, schelden of vloeken. Kinderen kunnen hier een voorbeeld aan nemen en het nadoen of overnemen.
De film bevat een combinatie van seksuele handelingen en harddrugs of overmatig drugs- of alcoholgebruik. Door het zien van dit soort beelden kunnen jongeren dit gedrag als normaal of zelfs positief gaan zien. Met name jonge tieners zijn erg beïnvloedbaar wanneer het gaat om beelden van risicovol gedrag.
